Austin - 31-Days of Awareness and Giving
Austin was born in December of 2013, but his story began in July. We went to our 20-week scan and found out that his brain wasn't developing the way it should be. We had appointments after that in which we were given the Dandy-Walker diagnosis and told that he may not amount to much. It was an emotional roller coster of ups and downs, but he came into the world thriving and hasn't slowed down. We started early intervention with him right away and his first physical therapist assured us he would be fine. We just had to go on "Austin time." Our biggest struggle with him really was his noise sensitivity. We were extremely hesitant to add another little one to the family, but when Austin turned three we added a little brother and the two of them are best friends and Austin just really took off. His noise sensitivity lessened. He started talking. He had a few words here and there but at age 3 1/2 he was getting so many more words. And, the moment he started talking, he was reading and spelling. It was really quite amazing! He is behind physically, but he will blow your mind if you ever get a chance to talk to him. He's full of facts and always makes sure we're learning something new. He has the biggest heart and really just cares so much for everyone around him. He can turn your day around with a hug. He really does just pass his contagious laugh onto everyone around him.
